Past Championships

2005

The inaugural Event took place in Warrenpoint on Carlingford Lough . The Currachs used were Dunfanaghy two seaters , which were made using traditional methods , tying twigs together to fashion a frame. They were brought in from Lough Neagh and caused great interest, not only among the hundreds of spectators, but also among the American competitors who have long been moving towards sleeker 4 seater neamhogs. The teams from Albany and Annapolis shared the spoils of almost all of the races, except in the final of the men’s singles, when a tangle between Dick Adair and Egan Nerich let a young Irish rower to steal past and win the only Irish victory of the day.

2007

Once more, the Event moved further inland and was hosted jointly by Enniskillen Council and Waterways Ireland, in a beautifully picturesque setting on the Erne, right in front of the Castle.

This provided opportunities to visit some local attractions; the Castle itself, Belleek Pottery and the Marble Arch Caves.

After some mishaps, the Philadelphia team arrived and were joined by a large group from Albany.

The racing was enlivened by rowers from France and Germany who travelled with the Cork team, Neamhogai Corcaigh, a team from Cambridge University and teams from local Enniskillen rowing club from Portora School.
